Healing Acupuncture Treatments for Pets

Acupuncture is a broad term encompassing many techniques, all involving inserting tiny needles or injections into the skin at defined points, called acupoints, to achieve balance and healing throughout the body.

Qi (chi) is the life force within all living creatures and the universe. Acupuncture helps maintain and rebuild the balance of the body and the mind and helps reconnect the pet to the harmony of the universe.

Acupuncture utilizes Qi Meridians and Classical Points within the pet's body to unblock the flow of Qi and restore balance and health.

Acupuncture is drug-free and safe; most pets require 15 or fewer needles per treatment.

Many conditions can be helped with acupuncture:

  • Arthritis
  • Anxiety
  • Skin conditions
  • Pain relief
  • GI upset (vomiting, IBD, diarrhea
  • Tendons/ligaments
  • Fearfulness
  • Sleep problems
  • Improved performance
  • Infertility
  • Wound Healing
  • And many more!

What to Expect

Most pets enjoy acupuncture. We will perform a complete examination and ask you many questions. We will review your concerns, pet's habits, environment, routine, and medical history. There are no wrong answers, but no one knows your pet like you do - we count on that knowledge and love to guide our treatment.

After an exam, we will plan treatment. Acupuncture can involve needles, injections, moxibustion, massage (tu-ina and acupressure), and electroacupuncture.

  • Dry needle technique: insertion of small, sterile needles into acupoints.
  • Aquapuncture technique: injection of a small amount of saline or Vitamin B to stimulate acupoints
  • Moxibustion technique: heating over a needle or acupoint to heat the body's energy. Moxa is similar to incense, with a mild odor and heat.
  • Electroacupuncture technique: stimulation of needles at specified frequency and amplitude using a small electrostimulation unit.
  • Tui-na/acupressure technique: stimulation of acupoints using finger pressure or body manipulation of affected areas. Similar to massage.

Our needles are tiny, and most pets don't even feel them. They do not have to hold still for the treatment, and many enjoy a treat or being petted while receiving treatment.
